Wind power, as an alternative to burning fossil fuels, is plentiful, renewable, widely distributed, clean, produces no greenhouse gas emissions during operation, consumes no water, uses little land, reliable, cost-effective, pollution free energy and sustainable.
Wind power gives variable power which is very consistent from year to year but which has significant variation over shorter time scales. It is therefore used in conjunction with other electric power sources to give a reliable supply.

Wind energy or wind power is the process by which the wind is used to generate mechanical power or electricity. Wind turbines convert the kinetic energy in the wind into mechanical power. Almost all wind turbines producing electricity consist of specialist designed, highly engineered blades which rotate around a horizontal hub. The hub is connected to a generator, housed in a nacelle, where wind power is converted into electricity by magnets moving past stationary coils of wire known as the stator. As the magnets pass the stator, AC electricity is produced. It is then converted into DC electricity using inverters that transform the generator's output frequency to the grid-required frequency. The inverters can control both frequency of current and speed of the generator.
